• You’ve probably found this website because you are looking for help to change unwanted behaviors, beliefs and emotions that keep you from the fulfilling life you want. You may have tried to resolve these issues on your own, or with the help of family, friends or a therapist – and yet they still cause you angst.
The good news is change is possible.

Research shows that human nature is geared towards health and relationship. However, let’s say you may have experienced a traumatic event such as a car accident, rape, death of a loved one, a debilitating medical diagnosis or a betraying partner. Or, let’s consider that you may have grown up around people who were neglectful, rejecting or abusive. Over time these painful experiences can cause symptoms to develop such as anxiety and depression, unsatisfying relationships and/or employment issues and get in your way of achieving the quality of life that you want.

I believe that a good fit between a client and a therapist can open the path to healing and enable you to discover your own inner resources and capabilities. Let me help you harness the power of the present by letting go of the past and transform your life today.

  • EMDR Psychotherapy, Costa Mesa, CAI am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in private practice. I bring to my clients my own life experience, my experience as a psychotherapist/social worker and my knowledge of how the brain can heal and restore itself in the context of a caring, attuned therapeutic relationship. In my work and with my clients I am creative, warm and enthusiastic, challenging and supportive, fully present and attentive.

I am Certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and an Approved Consultant in EMDR . I attend various EMDR conferences throughout the year, monthly EMDR consultation groups and lead various groups/workshops. I have a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California (USC) and an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Sociology from the University of Florida (U of F). I participate in various spiritual practices and am an avid Ivengar yoga practitioner. I am in the process of working toward certification of my Goldendoodle dog, WIndsor, to become a therapy dog.

Throughout my career I have designed and led several comprehensive group programs including partner relationship programs, women support groups, grief workshops, leadership workshops, social skills training for children and parenting classes. I am open to leading a group and to discuss any suggestions you may have.

Currently, I am in the collaborative process of writing a book called Pink Clovers with 3 other women of various faiths, ethnicities and ages. The book is about our deep friendship and life experiences related to the topics of “love, luck, faith and hope”. The title is based on the idea that finding each other was as rare as finding a 4-leaf clover; pink the universal color for girls/women and the topics which we write about - the 4 leaves of the clover. Our hope is that other women will find each other and share their lives by writing about the same 4 topics and find the same depth of friendship as we share.

  • Individual, Couple and Group Psychotherapy

I treat adult clients only. I offer individual, couple and group psychotherapy in a supportive yet challenging environment. My work is about creating the conditions for the change each client seeks. I encourage clients to move toward health at their own pace fostering an environment where self-exploration feels safe, collaborative, creative and individualized.

My area of expertise includes simple and complex traumatic stress responses, anxiety, and self-esteem issues with an emphasis on relationship difficulties. I bring into my work many years of experience as a psychotherapist and my knowledge of how the brain can heal, regulate and restore itself in the context of a caring therapeutic relationship. My practice has an emphasis on combining a variety of approaches based on individual needs. These may include traditional talk therapy, cognitive-behavioral, guided imagery, relaxation techniques, 12 step work and EMDR.

My belief and my experience show that disturbing life events can affect a person's ability to function optimally in their life. When a negative experience happens suddenly (for example a car accident) individual therapy can be brief, focusing on addressing the specific event that is causing the person’s current difficulties. Long-term therapy is available for more complicated issues that have been long standing or are particularly traumatic, such as early childhood abuse and/or neglect, a history of unsatisfying relationships, or low self-esteem. In most cases, EMDR therapy is the primary component in a comprehensive treatment plan. EMDR harnesses all we know about human attachment and neurobiology to heal and reprocess disturbing life experiences that impede a person's ability to move forward in their life (see below and/or the link on my website for more information on EMDR).

My sessions are approximately 1 hour, 1.5 hours, or 2 hours long. The session length is determined by the phase of treatment, the treatment goals, and financial considerations. Sessions are typically scheduled weekly or biweekly. Clients who cannot come often, or who must travel a long distance to see me, may wish to schedule longer sessions. I do not take credit cards or insurance (SEE: "list of insurance questions" to ask your insurance company under forms drop down). Payment by cash or check is due at the beginning of the session.

I only have office hours on a part-time basis, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I often travel and attend various conferences/workshops so your treatment may have some breaks. Sometimes my practice is full and I cannot take new clients - but I do keep a waiting list.

If you'd like to start therapy, contact me by phone or e-mail. Before making a first appointment I'll want to talk with you just to be sure that I'm able to provide the help you seek.

    emdr therapy

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a comprehensive approach to psychotherapy, originally developed by Francine Shapiro, a Senior Research Fellow at the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, California in 1987. EMDR has been clinically proven to accelerate the treatment of a wide range of problems and self-esteem issues related both to disturbing past traumatic events and present life conditions. This interactive approach has been empirically tested with clients who have experienced a broad range of disturbing life experiences, including accidents, loss of a job or a loved one, rape, sexual molestation, exposure to combat and natural disasters. EMDR offers a reprocessing of disturbing life experiences resulting in a significant reduction or elimination of symptoms such as emotional distress, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks and nightmares. EMDR is also used to treat relationship problems and self-esteem issues as well as anxiety, depression, complicated grief reactions and phobias. It can also alleviate performance anxiety at work, on the playing field and in the performing arts.
